About the Foundation
Supporting the further educational development of graduating Milbank High School seniors through financial scholarships.
The Foundation
The Milbank High School Educational Foundation was chartered as a non-profit corporation by the State of South Dakota on June 9, 1986. In the fall of that year, it was declared a tax exempt charitable foundation by the US Internal Revenue Service. The impetus for the creation of the Foundation came from a group of public-spirited Milbank business people. The first major financial contribution was made by the stockholders of the former Whetstone Valley Nursing Home, Inc. All gifts to the Milbank Educational Foundation are tax deductible and will not only promote the purpose of the Foundation but can reduce the donor’s income tax liability.
PURPOSE - The Foundation has a single purpose: promoting the further educational development of graduating Milbank High School seniors through financial scholarships.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS - The Foundation is managed by a seven-member Board of Directors, who each serve five-year terms.
FUNDS - The Foundation will hold all accumulated funds in a permanent trust, with only the income being used to fund annual scholarships.
NAMED SCHOLARSHIP - Named scholarships may be established. If interested, contact one or more of the Foundation Board for further information, including the amount needed for a named scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE - The Foundation’s scholarship committee is the full teaching staff at Milbank High School. That group of educators is responsible for the selection of award recipients, based on an application and competitive scholarship criteria, including financial needs, grades, and involvement in school and community activities.
THE FOUNDATION - Earnestly solicits all contributions on a one-time or continuing basis including payroll deductions. All contributions will be commingled with other investments from which the annual income will provide financial scholarships to each succeeding graduating class of Milbank High School seniors.
